Introducing Koko, a connection I initially made on Facebook before our first season of LA Style Fashion Week. My how far she’s come in such a short amount of time. Koko just recently got signed with LA Models, and we are insanely proud of her for such an accomplishment!
Which types of modeling do you primarily focus on? What is your favorite and why?
I like print and runway so much I don’t think I can choose. I just love becoming whatever character the outfit makes me become.

When did you first start into modeling? Tell us about your first photo shoot.
I first started modeling at 17. My first real shoot was with some amateur photographer and it was so sketchy! But I booked my first agency right away and was able to shoot with knowledgeable photographers that taught me so much valuable info about lighting and angles. I was very lucky.

What is your favorite part of modeling? How has it impacted your life?
My favorite part of modeling is getting to work for some of the most talented people in the world. Photographers, designers, MUA’s, etc. It’s like working with artists who make you their canvas and you get to become this character. It’s such a fun and hard job. Most people think it’s easy but for me staying in shape is an effort as well as knowing my angles, being on point with fashion and poses for concepts, etc. The past four years model has actually given me better confidence in myself. When I started it was hard because I was so young, and whenever I got rejected I took it hard. But I grew to realize that not fitting a part or a piece of clothing isn’t necessarily your fault. Everyone has a specific look or body type they design for and if you don’t fit that look it doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough it just means you weren’t the vision they had. Modeling has given me some thick skin.

If you could plan your ideal photo shoot with you as the model, what would this entail?
My ideal photoshoot would be a cover shoot for Vogue or W magazine featuring my favorite photographer, Jonathan Roberts, and some of my favorite designers.

What is your passion? Dream job?
My passion is my family and friends. Even though I’m busy, I try to text message or call them weekly to see how they are. My dream job is to be a mommy 🙂 I grew up in the middle of a huge family so I have been raising kids for a long time. It would be amazing to hold my own baby in my arms and raise him or her in a loving home with an amazing husband.
What is your biggest goal as a model?
My main goal is to be able to make a living off of what I love. And if fame comes with that then I plan on being a voice to charities and organizations and to bring awareness to so many issues that need attention and financial help around the world.

And there you have it, Koko Laimana, as beautiful inside as she is out. I don’t know how she finds the time, but this amazing model and friend has also filled in as my assistant a few times, for model castings and even a reality TV series that Kinsman Swim was a part of. I feel so blessed to have met Koko, and to have become friends and colleagues. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you Koko.
